What?

The Big Bang is our biggest comp yet!
Join us in BoulderWorld Belfast on August 30th for a great day of climbing for everyone, from first time competitors to the best in Ireland and beyond.

All competitors will have the chance to climb on 30 qualifying boulders, at a range of difficulties. 

‘JUNIOR’

The Junior categories will qualify in the morning and will have finals in the afternoon.

‘SENIOR’

 

All Senior categories will qualify in the afternoon.

‘OPEN’

 

Those competing in the open category will have finals in the evening. With professional lighting, sound and a livestream. This will be an evening to remember!


What to expect on the day?

 

During the Big Bang our car park is likely to fill up very quickly, we would encourage anyone to take public transport if possible, or to find alternative, free parking nearby.

The day starts off with Junior Qualis in the morning, followed by the Senior’s in the afternoon where they will have 3 hours to attempt 30 boulders. 

After the Senior qualification gets going the top competitors in the Junior categories will start their finals! This will be a fast paced 5 minute on 5 minute off rolling format providing great entertainment for spectators.

Between Senior Qualifications and Finals there will be a range of fun challenges to take part in with entry to the challenge gaining you a ticket for our prize raffle. There will also be a Pizza van to refuel after qualis are over

Centre Rules


The normal safety rules of the centre apply on the day of the competition:
● Please visit the registration desk upon arrival to ensure you are signed in and your registration is up to date.
● If it’s your first time using our centre, you will need to register with us. This can be done here:

● Please keep all personal belongings in the cubby holes to ensure that the mats stay clear.
● Please give way to climbers on the wall and be aware of where they may land if they fall.
● For Hygiene reasons, please do not wear climbing shoes in our toilets.
● Report any problems (loose holds, injuries etc) to a member of staff.

Competition Rules

 

All Rounds

  • Each boulder will have 4 designated start points, which must be controlled before the competitor can continue.
  • Each boulder will have a designated zone hold which must be used for points to be awarded.
  • Each boulder will have a marked finish hold which must be matched in control.
  • An attempt is counted as any time all four limbs leave the ground
  • Competitors can brush any holds on the climb, however touching holds beyond the start holds is not allowed.
  • In the event of a technical incident (Eg: loose or broken hold, any other incident which causes an unfair disadvantage), competitors will be allowed another attempt at the boulder.
  • Volumes are considered in on all climbs.

Qualification

  • All categories will climb on the same 30 qualifying boulders.
  • There is no isolation, competitors are allowed to watch and communicate with each other.
  • The round will be self scored using the Vertical Life digital scorecard, this can be found here: https://results.vertical-life.info/event/351/
  • Please make sure to bring a compatible device such as a phone or tablet and log in before the competition to make sure that everything runs smoothly on the day.
  • After qualification, competitors will be ranked by the number of points scored.
  • In each junior category, the top 6 male and top 6 female climbers will progress to finals.
  • For Seniors, only competitors in the 16+ open category will be eligible to progress to finals, the top 6 men and top 6 women will make it through.
  • If a category has more than 10 entries, finals will have 6 competitors. If there is 10 entries or less then there will be 4 competitors in finals.
  • In the open category, competitors can have up to 5 attempts per boulder. In all other categories, competitors can have unlimited attempts. 

Finals

  • If a category has more than 10 entries, finals will have 6 competitors. If there is 10 entries or less then there will be 4 competitors in finals
  • Junior Finals will be run in the 2024 IFSC semi-final time format, but with its own scoring system with low zone, high zone and top all worth separate points and all with a point penalty per attempt.
